This work is a real-life experiment, first tried on unsuspecting students, now open for public access. See the description in german or a translated summary in english.
Through secretly modifying the network we were able to manipulate the data people working at a small german academy were accessing from the internet. Through a filter software we wrote, we manipulated the whole world wide web from the view of the students. To experience the same filtered view of the web as the students did, change the proxy settings in your browser to the following (HTTP only!): Proxy: www.a-blast.org Port: 7007 Ask your (network) administrator, if you don't know how to set up the proxy or change your browser preferences. Please try this settings on any site, for example these ones: http://www.google.com/ (view some results) http://www.zeit.de/ http://www.focus.de/politik/deutschland/0,1518,101074,00.html http://mail.yahoo.com/ http://www.slashdot.org/ http://rhizome.org/fresh/ http://www.cnn.com/ http://www.csu.edu.au/australia/ Also we recommend to start up a Windows Napster client. Download the logfiles, where all manipulations (more then 600000) are listed: insert_coin-FilterLog.zip (Windows, Mac) insert_coin-FilterLog.tar.gz (Unix) |
